Management and governance

Governance of the Excellence Initiative

The governance of the University of Lille’s Excellence Initiative is composed of several levels.

  • The extended management committee of the University of Lille and its partner institutions meets quarterly to validate the strategy of the University of Lille’s Excellence Initiative.
  • The steering committee, made up of representatives of the partner institutions, meets monthly to monitor the steering of the Excellence Initiative and its projects.
  • The hub coordination teams meet twice a month to develop the initiatives that are to be implemented as part of the Excellence Initiative. The hub coordinators are responsible for coordinating the activities and exchanges of their respective offices. In the context of the Excellence Initiative, they act as intermediaries between their hub’s scientific community and the decision-making bodies. They interact closely with the Initiative’s operational team to ensure that initiatives are properly implemented.

The hub offices are made up of people whose roles ensure the broadest possible representation of the diversity of staff at the institutions taking part in the Excellence Initiative. Each topic-focused hub has its own office, headed by a hub manager. In this capacity, the offices are consulted on the development of actions taken by the initiative, and may, where appropriate, participate in appraising responses to calls for projects and evaluating completed projects.

Partners in the Excellence Initiative

The University of Lille’s partners in the Excellence Initiative play a crucial role in strengthening its reputation and promoting scientific and educational innovation.

The DASP and the Excellence Initiative

The University of Lille’s Strategy and Steering Support Department (Direction d’Appui à la Stratégie et au Pilotage – DASP) coordinates, supports and monitors the Excellence Initiative and its structural projects. From project conception to completion, the DASP team supports project leaders and the Excellence Initiative strategy. The DASP’s remit includes the operational implementation of initiatives, the design and oversight of calls for projects, entering into contracts with project sponsors and monitoring project implementation.

The DASP also liaises with funding bodies and interconnected structural projects such as WILL and GRAEL. It assists with formalising the programme of initiatives with the various stakeholders and setting out the budget for the programme. The Strategy and Steering Support Department is a central pillar of the Lille Excellence Initiative, in particular through its project steering unit.

The project management office

The project management office is a cross-functional structure within the DASP with the following responsibilities:

  • Offering methodological support to the university’s project managers, both individually and collectively.
  • Leading and structuring training by setting up training sessions for university staff and co-design workshops on project management.
  • Coordinating the university’s structural projects by managing the project portfolio.
  • Leading the Projects Committee (Comité des Projets – COMOP), which brings together the Delegate General Managers (Directeurs Généraux Délégués – DGD) and their representatives every month.
